Dark siding is a tolerance test.
Against charcoal, white trim reveals every deviation in a batten spacing or a reveal depth. A dark house looks expensive only when the framing behind it was held tighter than code asks for.

Charcoal board-and-batten with crisp white trim is harder to get right than white, because it depends entirely on the trim lines staying true. A stone skirt grounds the elevation and keeps the dark field from feeling heavy. The largest home in the collection, and the most self-assured.

Against charcoal, white trim reveals every deviation in a batten spacing or a reveal depth. A dark house looks expensive only when the framing behind it was held tighter than code asks for.
Stone is limited to the foundation line. It carries the visual weight of the dark siding down into the ground, so the house looks planted rather than parked.
Stained timber columns carry a porch across nearly the whole elevation. At that length the columns become the rhythm of the facade, which makes their spacing the most important dimension on the front of the house.
Glass double doors sit at the centre of a dark facade. After sunset the interior light reads all the way to the road — the single most valuable thing a dark house can do.
We never build the same house twice. If you have land, drawings, or simply the beginning of an idea, we would like to hear about it.
